I got my hands on a broken alarm interface, and as I like making clocks in unusual ways, got at it. The approach is simple remove everything from the inside but the interface panel, throw a it a few seven segment displays with their respective drivers, a PIC microcontroller and a lot of trust in the code not losing time without even a crystal (no way, it loses time like a maniac!)
I did manage to reverse engineer the panel interface and use it to control the time and alarm settings like in a regular digital clock. I could even use the indicator LEDs for the alarm setup indicators.
Next time I will throw in a DS1307 and this way I will have a working clock that also has the ability of keeping time, hehe!
